FAQ

Is Rift free?

Yes. The client is free to download and use, with one running session per account. Most plugins are free too. Some premium plugins and a VIP membership (for running multiple sessions at once) are available, but nothing you need to get started costs anything.

Do I need an account?

Yes. Rift is powered by your account — you sign in with Discord through the launcher. That's what unlocks your plugins and keeps them tied to you. It's free and takes a few seconds.

Will I get banned?

Honest answer: Rift is a third-party client. It is not made, reviewed, or endorsed by Jagex, and using any modified client carries some inherent risk. Rift deliberately avoids automation and gameplay-altering functionality, but we can't make guarantees about Jagex's enforcement decisions. The risk is yours to weigh — if you're not comfortable with it, don't use a third-party client.

Does it work with Jagex accounts?

Yes. Sign in through the Rift launcher and Jagex authentication is handled for you. Rift never sees your Jagex credentials.

How do I get plugins?

Browse the plugin hub, unlock what you want — free or premium — and it loads automatically the next time you launch. No files, no folders, nothing to install by hand.

Do my settings carry over?

Yes. Rift reads and writes to ~/.runelite, so if you're switching from a client that uses the same config directory, your settings, panels, and profiles show up automatically — no migration step needed.

Why can I only run one session?

The free tier allows one running client at a time. If you need more — for example, running multiple accounts at once — that's what the VIP membership is for.
