Getting started
Rift is a client for Old School RuneScape with something no other client has: a curated hub of plugins delivered straight to your account. Sign in, unlock the plugins you want, and they're there every time you play — nothing to install by hand.
Install
- Go to /download and grab the Rift launcher for your platform.
- Run the installer and launch Rift.
- The launcher keeps the client up to date automatically — no manual reinstalls for future updates.
Rift is powered by your account. On first launch, the launcher walks you through two quick sign-ins:
- Your Rift account — sign in with Discord. This is what unlocks your plugins and keeps them tied to you.
- Your Jagex account — the launcher handles Jagex authentication and passes the session to the client. Rift never sees your Jagex credentials.
How plugins work
Plugins live in the plugin hub, not on your hard drive. Browse the hub, unlock what you want — free or premium — and it loads automatically the next time you launch: encrypted, verified, and tied to your account. There's nothing to download, unzip, or drop into a folder, and no way for a bad file to sneak in — every plugin is reviewed before it's published.
If a plugin is ever removed or your access changes, Rift handles it cleanly: the affected plugin simply stops loading, and the rest of your session keeps running.
Settings and profiles
Rift keeps your configuration and profiles in ~/.runelite. If you're switching from another client that uses the same directory, your existing settings, panels, and keybinds carry over automatically — nothing to export or re-import.
